EXPLORING NATURE'S PRINCIPLES

One season at a time

WELCOME

Creating areas of permanent inclusion of humans instead of areas of permanent protection from humans
- Ernst Götsch

Nature is enormously complex. Fortunately people are masters at pattern recognition. Investigating, planning, and applying the patterns of nature allows us to integrate with the whole in mutually beneficial ways. This is a message which we do not hear often enough from the established environmental movement or our culture at large. Humans can act constructively on earth and each one of us is capable of learning how.

Through Finch Agroecology I am navigating the boundaries between our species and the world at large to find out how we can restore and strengthen those bonds which bind us all together. I am pushing the margins of small scale regenerative agriculture through partnerships with farms and homesteaders around southern Finland and Europe.

I want to learn how we can act so that future generations will inherit a healthier, more dynamic, and substantial world. I want to share what I learn with you so that more people will become engaged with the work of healing the wounds our species has caused.

SELECTED PROJECTS

Since my introduction to agriculture in 2008, I have steadily been getting involved with larger projects. My first garden was a guerrilla container garden of onions, peppers, and tomatoes situated in the dried up retaining pond behind a townhouse in Florida.

Fast forward to 2021 and I'm wrapping up a ground breaking microfarm and consulting with broad acre farmers thousands of times larger than that first attempt to grow my own vegetables.

My interest in permaculture design and agroecology was sparked by my love for nature and the creative potential we all have. As an outsider to agriculture, I have been able to approach each project with a different perspective that has allowed me to reframe challenges and present different solutions.

I have selected a few different projects to present as a portfolio of sorts not to demonstrate any design prowess or mastery, but rather to inspire you.

We all start somewhere different. But we can all learn the principles of nature and embark on our own journeys of exploration to make a mark on this world that then becomes the point of departure for the next generation.
